Cale Gale Texas Race Report:
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado
> Cale Gale raced the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado to an eighth-place finish on Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway. With a fast truck, flawless pit stops and strong restarts, the team was able to pick up their second top-10 finish of the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season.
When rain showers wreaked havoc on the weekend's schedule, NCWTS qualifying was cancelled and the field was set by owner points. Gale lined up 16th for the 167-lap WinStar World Casino 400 and immediately began picking up positions to race in 11th-place by lap 10. A couple of early cautions gave Gale the opportunity to work with crew chief Jerry Baxter and the Rheem team to continually improve the handling of his Rheem Chevrolet Silverado. Knowing the characteristics of the race, Baxter worked variance into the setup on the Rheem Chevrolet to allow the team to tighten up the truck as the sun set and the track loosened up. Gale brought the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet down pit road during the lap 33 caution and again during the lap 74 caution for a series of chassis and air pressure adjustments. With a very strong truck, Gale continued to hold his track position just outside the top 10 throughout the opening 110 laps.
With solid pit stops the Rheem team was able to pick up several positions on pit road, and Gale continually made up additional ground on restarts. Throughout the night Gale worked closely with substitute spotter Jay Shew to realize where competitors were making ground on him, and where he was able to pull away from other drivers. As the handling on Gale's truck changed with tire wear, Shew also suggested different lines around the track to help the Rheem Chevrolet turn through the corners.
With less than 40 laps to go, Gale drove his Silverado down pit road for the final stop of the night. The Rheem team laid down a fast stop to pick up two additional spots for Gale on pit road moving him into the eighth position. The race restarted one last time on lap 144, and Gale immediately drove up two additional positions to be scored in a race-high position of sixth-place. With his tires wearing off the driver settled back into the eighth position where he led his Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) teammate Justin Lofton to the checkered flag, and recorded his second top-10 result of the season. With the finish, Gale also picked up four spots in the 2012 NCWTS owner standings to be scored in the 12th position, just 17 points outside the top 10.
"I'm really proud of the performance of the Rheem team tonight at Texas Motor Speedway," commented Gale following the WinStar World Casino 400. "We raced competitively all night long, got better with each pit stop, and brought home a finish that we deserved. We had another phenomenal Rheem Chevrolet Silverado from Eddie Sharp Racing-I can't thank Jerry Baxter and all the guys enough for all their hard work this season. It means a lot to have the support of Rheem and everyone at Eddie Sharp Racing, and it's always a good feeling when we're able to run strong and bring home a good finish."

Cale Gale Texas Practice Notes:
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado
> NOTES: There were no incidents involving the No. 6 or 33 entries during practice.
Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team had plenty of time to bond this afternoon at the rain-soaked TMS. With qualifying cancelled, the Rheem team spent more than 15 hours at TMS on Thursday waiting for an opportunity to dry the track and log some practice laps. Drivers went on track around 5:00 p.m. CT, but when the mile-and-a-half speedway proved to be too wet to log laps at-speed, the red flag was displayed and jet dryers continued to work on the track surface. Gale strapped back in his truck around 8:00 p.m. CT to finally begin the hour-and-a-half practice session. Fast off the hauler, Gale logged his quickest lap of the night, and the ninth-fastest lap overall, on just his second lap. With changing track conditions, the Rheem team continued to work through a variety of setup changes as the sun set and rubber built up on the surface of TMS.
> QUOTES:
Cale Gale, No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet: "The cooler the track got, the looser our Rheem Chevrolet got tonight. We made some adjustments throughout practice and I think we'll start out pretty strong in our No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet. Having an evening practice allowed our team to get a good feel for what the track will be like in those temperatures, but one factor that we won't be able to predict is the different rubber--it will be interesting to see what the track is like once the IndyCar Series makes some laps. It was really long day today; I think everybody is ready to just get some sleep."

From the Driver's Seat: Cale Gale Quotes...
On racing at Dover International Speedway: "I don't really know what to expect this weekend--it's a brand new track for me. I will need to take some time in the Rheem Chevrolet just to learn the track-learn the best line, figure out my marks, all those things that come with running somewhere for the first time. That being said, I am really excited to race the Rheem Chevrolet this weekend. I've been to Dover several times and I've always enjoyed watching the races there. It's a really neat track; I'm looking forward to finally having the opportunity to compete there."
On getting the 2012 season revved up: "I'm happy that we've finally reached the point in the NCWTS season where we're racing every week or every other week. I feel like the Rheem team will benefit from being able to get in the rhythm of going to the track every week instead of having two or three weeks off after each event. It's a lot easier to bounce back from an off-race when you're headed to the track the next week. As a team we're able to continue learning and building our programs when we're at the track every week-there are just so many benefits to consistently racing. I think you'll be able to see continued growth and improvement from the Rheem team as the season gets going."
On finding a home at Eddie Sharp Racing: "It's been really nice being with ESR this season. Eddie [Sharp] and Jerry [Baxter, crew chief] have both been very consistent working with me and guiding me to help me get familiar with the trucks. I'm very fortunate that I have a team that is 100 percent behind me and an amazing sponsor in Rheem. Knowing that I have a team that believes in me and sponsor who wants to support me, it's a great feeling. It's awesome going to the track and getting into the truck knowing that I have all that support behind me." |

From the Pit Box:
Crew Chief
Jerry Baxter Quotes...
On what to expect in Dover: "Cale is completely new to Dover. He's never been on the track before. It's an extremely fast track that will take whatever you give it. Our first priority is getting Cale comfortable in the truck and confident on the track. We want him to drive it as hard as it will go. We'll spend time in practice just letting him log laps and get comfortable before we worry about making shock or spring changes to fine-tune the setup like we normally do. The track is similar to Bristol, but it's so much faster. Cale has had a lot of success at Bristol in the past, so we're hoping to draw on that too."
On preparing for 200 miles at The Monster Mile: "The truck that the Rheem team will be racing in Dover is new to ESR for 2012. The chassis came from KHI, and we took it to the wind tunnel a few weeks ago before testing with it at Nashville Superspeedway. While we haven't raced the chassis yet, Cale was very happy with it by the end of the test. I think it will be a good weekend." |
