Steve Park Finishes 25th After Early Incident at Kentucky Speedway

Pocono

Steve Park

Sparta, Kent. (September 6, 2010)- Steve Park looked to improve on his second race this season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Kentucky Speedway on Friday night. The No. 41 Van Dyk Baler Bollegraaf Lubo USA Toyota Tundra found trouble on lap 29, and relegated Park to a 25th-place finish.

The weekend started Thursday with two practice sessions. The Eddie Sharp Racing team with Carl Hartman, coming off an 18th-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway, looked to make more progress this weekend with the truck. Park finished the first practice with the 29th-quickest time of 32.702 seconds (165.158 mph).

In the thirty-minute break between practice sessions, the No. 41 team went to work to do everything possible to improve the truck. Park picked up time in the final practice with the 22nd-quickest lap time of 32.060 seconds (168.434 mph).

Early Friday afternoon, the No. 41 team was back in action, preparing the truck for qualifying. Park rolled off the grid, and laid down a lap of 31.809 seconds (169.763 mph). He picked up time from the practices and qualified 18th.

The green flag waved Friday night and the No. 41 Van Dyk Baler Bollegraaf Lubo USA team was ready to compete for a top spot. Park moved up through the field right off the bat, and by lap 5, he battled three-wide going down the backstretch with Jeffery Earnhardt. Park was able to hold off the No. 47 for the 16th position.

On lap 15, Park radioed to the crew that the field continued to get away from him in the straightaways. The caution flag waved for the first time in the night on lap 19 when Earnhardt spun, which gave crew chief Jefferson Hodges time to strategize how to get the No. 41 up front. Park came down pit road in the 17th position and pitted for fuel only. The quick stop allowed Park to restart 13th on lap 25.

Bad luck struck on lap 29, when the No. 41 brushed the wall. Park radioed to the crew that trash or rubber got under the car and caused the truck to get into turn two. The team quickly assembled a plan of attack, and Park came down pit road for an unscheduled stop to assess the damage. The crew fixed the damage on the right rear where the truck brushed the wall.

The No. 41 went back out in the 33rd position, two laps down. "It's alright," radioed crew chief Hodges. "We are going to battle back. This is a long race, and we have a long way to go." Despite damage to the right rear of the truck, Park continued to run the same lap times as he did before the incident.

The second caution of the race waved on lap 45. Park did not follow the leaders down pit road, and gained one of his two laps back. He restarted the race on lap 50 from the 30th position. By the half-way mark on lap 75, Park explained that the left-front shock was causing problems.

The caution flag waved for the third time on lap 75, and Park brought the No. 41 down pit road for four tires, fuel and a jack screw adjustment. Park restarted 28th, and quickly thereafter, the fourth caution of the day waved on lap 91. He relayed to the crew that the truck continued to be loose in the corners, and it was hard to keep the truck straight. The team made a track bar adjustment, filled up on fuel and checked the left front shock, but did not change tires. He restarted in the 29th position.

Another caution waved on lap 90, and Park came in for wedge adjustments and fuel. Park restarted in the 27th position, and he was determined to improve his position in the remaining 50 laps of the race. Park fought to work with the truck around the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway and crossed the finish line 25th, three-laps down. Todd Bodine grabbed the victory in the Built Ford Tough 225.

"Overall, I think that we improved this weekend," explained Park. "Obviously it is not the finishing position that we would have liked, but I think our team made a lot of progress this weekend. We started on the free side, and all weekend we were trying to find the issue. We went up in the fence in turn two while I was driving the high line around lap 29. We pitted to fix the truck and just couldn't get back on the lead lap. All in all, I think that it was a positive weekend. The way that the race played out, we were not able to get to our goal of finishing in the top-15. I feel as if we improved this weekend, even if our finish doesn't show it. I'm really proud of the No. 41 Van Dyk Baler Bollegraaf Lubo USA team."

Craig Goess Finishes Seventh at Du Quoin State Fairgrounds

Career-Best Finish at Dirt Track Places Goess Five Points Out of Points Lead

Du Quoin, Ill. (Sept. 8, 2010) - Craig Goess pulled off his career-best finish on a dirt track Monday afternoon at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care. Goess and the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota crossed the finish line seventh, grabbing his 12th top-10 in 16 races this season in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards.

Craig Goess

Goess started the one-day show early Monday morning with the lone practice session of the day. He laid down the 11th-quickest time of 34.081 seconds (105.631 mph). He picked up more speed during qualifying with a time of 33.711 seconds (106.790 mph). The lap was good enough for Goess to start seventh.

The green flag waved Monday afternoon, and Goess looked to better his previous dirt track starts. In three previous dirt track races, he finished 26 (Springfield 2009), 34th (Du Quoin 2009) and 11th (Springfield 2010). Goess knew that he had to not only compete against his competitors but also the rough terrain of the dirt track.

Goess rolled off seventh and worked to maintain an incident-free race during the 100-lap event. The No. 81 remained in the top-15 for most of the race and held steady to stay out of trouble. By lap 66, Goess was in the 14th position and looked to make a push to the front of the pack. With 10 laps to go, Goess broke into the top-10 in the ninth position. Arpin crossed the finish line first, racking up his third victory this season, and Goess took the seventh position.

Craig Goess

"All in all, it was not a terrible day," explained Goess. "We worked hard, and we were able to preserve points to be within five points of the leaders. We brought a different car this weekend to Du Quoin. It was actually only my second full dirt track race, seeing that my first two last year were cut short due to on-track incidents. I think that we can attribute our continued progress on the dirt to the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. team working hard to continually get better. I think that more time on the dirt track has helped me feel more comfortable on that kind of surface. The same goes for Johnny Allen, my crew chief, who hasn't had a lot of experience on dirt tracks. We are making steps to improve each and every race, and I think that shows from our progress on dirt tracks. Who knows-I may be a professional dirt track racer one day."

Goess currently sits third in the ARCA Racing Series points standings. He is five points out of first behind Patrick Sheltra and Tom Hessert, who are tied for the lead. Goess has four races left in the ARCA Racing Series schedule this year to make it to the top of the points battle.

Steve Park Fast Facts:
Two In a Row: Park will compete for the second straight week in the No. 41 Van Dyk Baler Bollegraaf Lubo USA Toyota Tundra. In his second NCWTS start of the season, Park looks to improve his finish from last week at Chicagoland Speedway at the similar track of Kentucky Speedway. Both are 1.5-mile intermediate tracks with races of 225 scheduled miles and 150 laps.

Last Race: Chicagoland Speedway: In his first race of the 2010 NCWTS season, Park competed at Chicagoland Speedway. The race, also the first for the team, proved to be a learning experience for everyone. Park qualified 25th, and when the green flag waved Friday night, Park worked his way through the field. Battling a tight truck for most of the race, Park crossed the finish line 18th.

Park in the Bluegrass State: Park enters the race at Kentucky Speedway with two top-10 finishes in two races. In 2004, Park competed in the NCWTS event at Kentucky Speedway with Orleans Racing and finished sixth in race. He also competed with the same team in 2005 and finished eighth. He hopes to capitalize on his experience at the track and bring the No. 41 success in Kentucky.

QUOTES:
Park on Racing at Kentucky Speedway:

"I think Kentucky Speedway is awesome. I've had the opportunity to race there numerous times, and it is another track where aerodynamics play a large role. After Chicagoland, I think we think that we are hurting on the package a little bit. We just need to take the knowledge we gained at Chicagoland and improve the truck. We've been working on it all week to make the truck better and hopefully this week we will not have such a disappointing run. I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel again this week."

DuQUOIN PREVIEW
Craig Goess ARCA Racing Series Advance

Pocono

Craig Goess

MOORESVILLE, NC (Sept. 1, 2010)Craig Goess and the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota return to dirt track at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Goess assumed the ARCA Racing Series points lead after his pole win and fifth-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway.

Craig Goess Fast Facts:
Last Race:
Chicagoland Speedway: Goess took his second Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell last weekend at Chicago with a quick lap of 30.380 seconds (177.749 mph). Starting the race from the front row, the No. 81 quickly found bad luck when the Toyota began leaking oil. Two early, unscheduled pit stops forced Goess back to the 24th position. Adversity, however, was not going to stop the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. team as Goess made his way through the field with determination. He crossed the finish line fifth with the points lead.

Du Quoin History: Goess only has one career start at Du Quoin. In the 2009 season, Goess competed in the No. 81 and hit a streak of bad luck when he could not avoid a wreck in front of him in the first five laps of the race. Goess finished 34th.

In the Dirt, Again: The ARCA Racing Series heads to the second and final dirt track on the 2010 schedule. In August, Goess competed in Springfield, Ill., at the Illiinois State Fairgrounds. He picked up his best career finish on a dirt track with an 11th place finish. Monday's race at Du Quoin will mark Goess' fourth career start on a dirt track.

Leader of the Pack: Goess reclaimed the ARCA Racing Series point leader after his pole victory, laps led and fifth place finish at Chicago. He leads Frank Kimmel in second place by five points, Patrick Sheltra in third place by 10 points and Tom Hessert in fourth place by 25 points. With five races to go, Goess looks to continue his consistency in his trek to the championship.

Listen live: The race will be broadcast live on the ARCA Racing Network on ARCARacing.com. Live scoring and timing will be available during practice, qualifying and the Southern Illinois 100.

QUOTES:
Goess on running at Kentucky Speedway
"We overcame a lot of adversity at Chicagoland after having to pit early and often because of leaking oil. Dirt tracks historically have not been my forte, but our finish at Springfield proved that we are working hard to get to where we need to be on the dirt. I'm looking forward to the last five races of the season, and I think that the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. team is ready to compete until the end.
