Sunoco Rookie of the Race Craig Goess Hammers Home First Top-5 at Mansfield
Mansfield, Ohio (August 24, 2008) – Craig Goess and his Greenville-Toyota team raced to their first top-5 finish of the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Series East season this weekend at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Goess’ 5th place finish earned him Sunoco Rookie of the Race Honors.

"It was just a fun weekend overall," said Goess. "The car felt good from the time we unloaded it. We didn’t have to make a lot of changes at all with such a great baseline. We just fine-tuned things during practice and knew we had a solid machine for the race."
There was no doubt that Goess had a strong car. He fought through the corners to keep his No. 2 Greenville-Toyota off the rear bumper of cars in front of him. Goess qualified the Greenville-Toyota Toyota in the 10th starting position with a lap time of 16.723 seconds.
Goess remained solidly in the top-10 until he pitted under caution at lap 30 to have tape removed from the grill of the No. 2 Toyota. Goess restarted in the 17th position and skillfully maneuvered back into the top-10 where he remained for the majority of the evening’s race. In the final laps of the Mansfield 150, Goess positioned himself solidly seventh. On lap 146, the final caution of the day came and the race was set to complete with a green-white-checkered finish.
Crew Chief Johnny Allen radioed to his driver, "Alright, it’s been a great race. Only two more laps so get what you can and take what you can."
Goess did just that and in the final two laps around Mansfield Speedway, took the No. 2 moved into the fifth position to grab his career best finish and the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award.
"Craig drove a fantastic race today," commented Crew Chief Johnny Allen. "The last couple of races he has been up on the wheel and his level of confidence in the Greenville-Toyota Toyota is very evident."
Next Stop: Craig Goess and the Greenville Toyota team will have two weeks off between now and their next event. The NASCAR Camping World Series East returns to action on September 12th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Qualifying for the Heluva Good! Fall 125 takes place on Thursday, September 11th at 3:15 p.m. The green flag for the 125-lap event flies on Friday, September 12th at 5:10 p.m. All times are EASTERN. |
Eric Lux Charges to 11th Place Finish at Mansfield

"It was a hard race. A lot more beating and banging that I am accustomed to!" -Eric Lux |
|
Mansfield, Ohio (August 24, 2008) – Eddie Sharp Racing’s Eric Lux had a very eventful weekend that started when Hurricane Fay threw a wrench into his travel plans on Friday afternoon. The 20-year old Jacksonville University student and full-time Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series driver aimed his truck toward Charlotte and drove through the whipping winds and rain.
Lux flew to Ohio early Saturday morning and climbed behind the wheel of the No. 22 CharmHerSocksOff.com Toyota for only his second career oval track start. Lux rebounded from an early lost lap to finish in the 11th position at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Starting the Mansfield 150 in the 21st position, Lux climbed 10 spots to earn him the Powerade Power Move of the Race.
"This was definitely an up and down day for all of us on the No. 22 CharmHerSocksOff.com team," said Lux. "We were always so close to getting our lap back and something else would happen on the track. We stayed in the fight and the crew did an awesome job today! We worked through the problems and locked up a solid 11th place finish."
Lux struggled early in the 150-lap event, going a lap down to the leaders by lap 27 when unintentional contact caused the No. 22 to spin in turn 2. Miscommunication during his Lucky Dog lap at the lap 34 caution resulted in a pass-through penalty as well. Despite the early setbacks, Lux charged through the field, passing cars and skillfully dodging all the incidents that occurred in front of him on the half-mile speedway to bring the No. 22 CharmHerSocksOff.com Toyota home in the 11th spot.
"I am quite pleased with the race result," added Lux. "It was a hard race. A lot more beating and banging that I am accustomed to! I really look forward to racing with ESR in the future!"
Next Stop: Lux returns to action in the Rolex Grand-Am Series GT class at the New Jersey Motorsports Park for the Supercar Life 250 from August 29-31, 2008. For more information, please visit www.grand-am.com.

Lux Returns to Oval Track Racing with ESR at Mansfield
Denver, NC. (August 20, 2008) – This weekend Eric Lux will take a break from his GT3 Porsche 911 and climb behind the wheel of the No. 22 CharmHerSocksOff.com/ESR Development Toyota. 20-year old Lux will make his second career oval-track start at Mansfield Motorsports Park’s 0.5-mile asphalt speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Series East.
"I am really looking forward to competing in another race with Eddie Sharp Racing," said Lux. "The preparation these guys put into the cars is unbelievable."
The Buffalo, New York-native made his oval track debut with Eddie Sharp Racing at Thompson International Raceway in July 2008. Lux qualified the No. 22 Toyota in the 20th position and brought it home with all four corners still intact and in the 23rd position.
"The last time I had a race in Ohio we came out with a win; however that was a road course!" added Lux. "Hopefully the state will be kind to me again and I can bring home a good finish for ESR."
The win that Lux is referring to is his victory at Mid Ohio in June 2008 in the FarnbacherLoles No. 86 GT3 Porsche 911. Lux has seen fantastic success behind the wheel in the Grand-Am Rolex Series. In 2005, Lux became first 16-year-old to take checkered flag in Rolex 24 at Daytona as well as race in KONI Challenge Series at Daytona. In 2006, Lux became the youngest driver to win a Grand-American Cup race. He won the season opener at Daytona at only 16 years old. Lux shares the No. 86 GT3 Porsche with Leh Keen of Charleston, South Carolina. The teammates also captured a podium finish at Virginia International Raceway this season and the class pole position at Montreal in August.
