TOLEDO OH (March 24, 2009) - While the multi-car team thing is certainly not new to big-time stock car racing, it's never been done on the level that Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) is doing it here in the ARCA RE/MAX Series world.
Car owner Sharp was not only the first to field three fulltime ARCA RE/MAX Series teams in 2008; he is now the first to field four.
Sharp's fleet of Toyotas for 2009 provide rides for three rookies including Craig Goess, Steve Arpin and Tim George, Jr. The other spot on Sharp's ‘fab foursome' is reserved for Justin Lofton, who raced in every race last year with the exception of Daytona.
Prior to that, Sharp fielded cars for Michael McDowell and Ken Butler III in 2007 when both teams posted victories. McDowell ended up second in championship points before moving onto NASCAR.
In 2008, Sharp's three-car team with drivers' Scott Speed, Lofton and Butler resulted in a near-championship run for Speed who led the points right up to the final event of the season before giving it up in favor of an on-track argument.
In 2009, Sharp returns with championship hopes while he continues to build a reputation as one of the top development teams in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Lofton and George are off to solid starts with third and eighth place finishes respectively at Daytona.
In addition to full schedules, Eddie Sharp Racing is also planning to test extensively in 2009.

ESR Busy with Back-To-Back Tests at Salem and The Rock
ESR tested at Rockingham Speedway on Monday, March 23. Prior to that, ESR marched its three rookies into Salem Speedway for a private test last Thursday in preparation for the next race on tour - the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 by Federated Car Care at Salem Sunday, April 5.
George, Jr., driver of the No. 2 Ruby Tuesday Toyota, said, "We rolled off the trailer really well. I was able to make times close to what I was on the simulator and it showed how hard the guys were working at the shop. I look forward to the new challenge of high horsepower on the short-track and to coming back to Salem with Ruby Tuesday onboard."
Arpin, driver of the No. 20 Jeff Taylor Motorsports Toyota, was very happy with the Salem test. "I'm looking forward to the short tracks most this season, so Salem Speedway was an awesome place to start. Short-track racing is where I began my career and I am excited about applying my dirt-track racing knowledge to that of short-tracks. The whole team has been working really hard to prepare a good car for me and I am so excited to work with three of my teammates this week.'
Goess was the first on track Thursday morning, and added, "It was so good to get back in the car since Daytona. Short-track racing is always fun. It was good to be around all the guys again and it looks like all their hard work and preparation has paid off. I think it will be very competitive when we get back to racing."
Car Owner Eddie Sharp will be the featured guest on '30 at 30' Wednesday, March 25 at 3:30 PM ET. |
