Justin Lofton: Awesome car -Awesome night! |
|
Daytona, FL (February 11, 2009) -- Eddie Sharp Racing made history in the ARCA/RE-MAX Series fielding an unprecedented four teams in Daytona's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. Considering the odds of battling a fast track infamous for multi-car wrecks and introducing a fleet of rookies, Eddie Sharp came out ahead with two top ten finishes. One year veteran driver Justin Lofton worked hard and consistently to finish third and ARCA rookie Tim George Jr. battled the odds, the wrecks and tire troubles to land in eighth place. Two out of four teams in the top ten definitely equates a good day
in Daytona.
Pole-sitter Justin Lofton stayed up front for nearly 35 laps until a mishap during a pit stop delayed his re-entry into the field returning the No. 6 car to ninth when the track went green at lap 39. The madness ensued quickly after with a series of multi-car wrecks, each taking out more than six cars at a time. During a caution at lap 45, Lofton stayed out and regained third position, keeping him in contention for the win. The No. 6 Lofton Cattle Toyota remained in the top five throughout the remainder of the race and crossed the start/finish line in a respectable 3rd position.
"We had an awesome car and it was an awesome points night and at least we're coming home with one trophy.," exclaimed Lofton. "I'm super proud of the No. 6 Lofton Cattle Toyota team and we have awesome momentum going into the next race."

Tim George Jr. |
|
Tim George Jr. piloting the No. 2 Ruby Tuesday Toyota had a remarkable day out of the box battling a loose front right tire during the first half of the race and dodging the wrecks throughout the day. George Jr. pushed off the front at 37th and worked his way through traffic falling in line in second place by lap 39. By lap 45, only 13 cars were left on the lead lap, with George Jr. in eighth. After multiple yellows and a long red flag, George Jr. kept his game face on and took the checkers in eighth position, scoring Eddie Sharp Racing the second car in the top ten.
It was George's second top-10 finish of the year at Daytona International Speedway, following a 10th-place overall (and second in GT) with TRG in the recent Rolex 24 At Daytona. |

ESR's two remaining teams, the No. 81 Greenville Toyota, piloted by Craig Goess and the No. 20, with Steve Arpin at the helm were not as lucky as their teammates. The No. 81 car suffered radiator troubles when debris blew through the car's radiator forcing the Greenville Toyota team behind the wall for repairs. Goess was considered a serious contender for the Lucas Oils Slick Mist 200, but his crew chief Patrick Donahue, quickly made the changes and got the No. 81 machine back on track in an effort to run for points. Goess finished 17th.

"My guys gave me a front running car. Unfortunately things that were beyond our control happened and we weren't able to get the finish I know we were capable of," said Goess. "I have a lot of confidence going toward the rest of the season despite this Daytona finish."
Steve Arpin, rookie driver of the No. 20 Mesilla Valley Transportation Toyota, was looking strong, despite having issues with electric and fuel problems that started in practice. By lap 31, he was behind the wall having suffered right front damage as a result of one of the "big ones." He returned back on track on lap 63, focusing on earning points and knowledge, ultimately finishing 26th.
Arpin stated, "We were in the wrong place at the wrong time coming out of turn four and got collected. All in all, I learned a lot, had a great set of eyes with Lorin Ranier spotting for me and a great crew in the pits with Wayne Carrol and Jonathan Davis calling the shots. I'm looking forward to Salem and know we will definitely be ready for Talladega."
Next up for Team ESR is the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 in Salem, NC on Sunday, April 5, 2009. |
DAYTONA QUALIFYING UPDATE
LOFTON ON POLE!
ESR driver snags front spot in one race he missed last season! |
 |
Justin Lofton |
|
DAYTONA BEACH (FEBRUARY 6, 2009)--ESR's Justin Lofton, ran 20 of 21 ARCA RE/MAX events last season. The only race he missed was the season opener at Daytona. This afternoon Lofton put any doubt about the high banks of Florida's famous superspeedway to rest by taking the 2009 Daytona Menards Pole Award Presented by Ansell for tomorrow's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 with a time of 49.418 seconds (182.120 mph) around the 2.5-mile oval.
Lofton's ESR teammates all made the field. Craig Goess Jr starts 9th. Steve Arpin 20th and Tim George Jr. struggled after a promising practice, starting the race using a provisional.
Tim George Jr. turned an extra 40 laps in final practice later in the day, gaining valuable seat time and working on the car. He ran 13th in a field of 28 cars taking advantage of the final session from 5:10-6:15 p.m. Friday in which teams were only allowed to make a limited number of pre-approved adjustments. |
LOFTON: "The car felt really good," said Lofton. "Driving around here doesn't require too much but a good handling car. We came here exactly with what Bryan Clauson sat on the pole with here in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race last year and it worked again."

RUBY TUESDAY SERVES UP DAYTONA SPONSORSHIP
FOR EDDIE SHARP RACING'S TIM GEORGE JR.
Denver, NC (February 3, 2008) -- Eddie Sharp Racing announced today that Ruby Tuesday will sponsor the No. 2 car of Tim George Jr. for the inaugural 2009 Daytona ARCA RE/MAX Series race on February 7, 2009.
"We couldn't be happier," said team owner Eddie Sharp. "Partnering with a national brand like Ruby Tuesday is great for the team and for the sport. We promise to give it our all to ensure Ruby Tuesday experiences success both on and off the track."
Having established a reputation for providing a hands-on, personal approach for drivers making a foray into stock car racing, ESR has also become the main attraction in the ARCA garage for sponsors looking to break into the sport. In 2008, ESR garnered the support of big brands such as Red Bull and Aarons, fielding the No. 2 and No. 22 cars as championship contenders. Drivers Scott Speed and Ken Butler III both finished in top 10 drivers points.
For the 2009 season, No. 2 driver Tim George Jr. also played a critical role in securing Ruby Tuesday as a sponsor, which supports that George's academic and racing credentials are already paying off. In 2008, George earned the Grand-Am Rolex Series Rookie of the Year award, and in 2009 he has already sat on the podium with a second place finish at Daytona for the inaugural Rolex 24. As a graduate from the University of Miami, George has demonstrated success applying his knowledge of business and marketing both on and off the track.
"We are very excited to be partnered with Tim George Jr. and Eddie Sharp Racing for the kickoff of the 2009 racing season in Daytona. We are confident this team will have great success in the race, as they represent the Ruby Tuesday brand," said Mark Young, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Ruby Tuesday.
George added, "I am proud to represent such a nationally recognized brand in a well respected series such as ARCA and I'm thankful to Ruby Tuesday for this opportunity. Eddie Sharp has helped to align me with the right people to inspire confidence going into the first race of the season."
Team ESR also announced today John Monsam as the crew chief of the No. 2 Ruby Tuesday Toyota Camry. Monsam has a great deal of experience in NASCAR and is best known for his work with young drivers such as Kelly Bires, Bobby East and Todd Kluever. His most successful runs were with Mark Martin in 2007 and Jon Wood in 2008.
About Ruby Tuesday: Ruby Tuesday is one of the nation's leading casual-dining restaurant companies, with more than 900 restaurants worldwide. It was founded in 1972 by Sandy Beall, who serves as Chairman and CEO today. The company is committed to having uncompromising freshness and quality with passionate employees who take pride in delighting guests with an excellent dining experience. The burger-centric menu features an assortment of handcrafted burgers, its fresh garden bar, premium baby back ribs and a variety of other signature entrées. Ruby Tuesday, Inc. is traded on the NY Stock Exchange (symbol: RI)." |
TEAM ESR'S CRAIG GOESS JR'S HARD WORK ETHIC PAYS OFF
 |
Craig Goess and Team Owner Eddie Sharp |
|
Denver, NC (February 4, 2009) -- Craig Goess Jr. is not your typical up-and-coming race car driver. Although fiercely competitive with a racer's passion to score a string of victories, Goess has the hard work ethic and wisdom of a seasoned veteran. Strike that up to maturity or to the fact that Goess moonlights full-time at a local dealership, which keeps him grounded as he straddles between the regular life of the "working man" and the hectic, competitive season of a race car driver.
Goess will pilot the No. 81 Greenville Toyota Camry for Eddie Sharp Racing in 2009 and contend for ARCA RE/MAX Rookie of the Year. A one-year veteran of Eddie Sharp Racing, Goess raced in the NASCAR Camping World Series East in 2008 for ESR, scoring three top-10 starts, two top-10 finishes and one top-5, finishing 16th in points standing.
For a driver making an unprecedented jump from a reigning season in Legends cars to full-size stock cars, the team's finish was impressive and encouraged both ESR and Goess to make the move to the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2009.
"It's going to be a good year and I'm looking forward to it," said Goess. "I feel really good about my car and my team." Goess is paired with veteran crew chief Patrick Donahue for the 2009 season. As crew chief for the No. 2 cars that fielded ARCA Series Champion Michael McDowell in 2008, and multiple winner Scott Speed in 2009, Donahue clearly has the skill, drive and insight to make first-time stock car racers a success.
"I feel like his intensity level and his passion for on-track performance is the same as mine. I think he hates to lose as much as I do," Goess added, "That's why we'll make a good team."
Born in Woodbury, New Jersey, Goess was a familiar site in Victory Lane with his No. 81 Legends car. With more than 200 feature wins at over 24 tracks across the country in the Semi-Pro and Pro divisions, some of the best drivers in the country feared the No. 81 when it appeared on the entry list. Goess' success over the years earned him three National Pro Division Championships, beating some of today's top NASCAR stars such as Reed Sorenson, Kyle Busch and David Ragan. After winning 40 of the 48 races he entered from 2005 to 2007, Goess started looking towards the next level.
Goess will make his debut at Daytona's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on February 7, 2009, marking his first time racing on a super speedway. Learning the significance of finesse and maneuvering from years of successful racing in Legends, Goess is not intimidated by the 2.5 mile tri-oval track and is confident he will be competitive when the green flag drops.

JUSTIN LOFTON SETS HIS SIGHTS ON SUCCESS
 |
Justin Lofton |
|
Denver, NC (February 1, 2009) -- Justin Lofton, driver of the No. 6 Lofton Cattle Toyota Camry, gets back in the saddle in just a few days in Daytona. With a year of experience under his belt culminating in a top 15 finish in points, Lofton will be a serious contender for the Championship title in 2009.
Barring the ups and downs of a typical racing season, Lofton always proved competitive, scoring his first win in Michigan, followed by two poles with a total of five top ten finishes in 2008.
"I'm hoping to carry the momentum from last year into 2009," said Lofton. "We had a great test session at Talladega and all our adjustments were positive. We never went backward."
This season, Lofton will be the veteran at Eddie Sharp Racing‘s four team stable, and expectations are high. "I think everyone is excited about our potential this year, and my expectations are much higher personally," Lofton commented. "I feel much better prepared going into this season and I've set my sights on beating the existing records…all of them."
The No. 22 team will also introduce Mark Rette as crew chief for Lofton in 2009. Rette delivers years of racing experience with seasoned drivers including Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya.
"I am glad to be a part of Eddie Sharp Racing," Rette added, "right now our main focus is running for the championship."
Lofton began his career at the age of 11 racing downhill mountain bikes. In 2001, Lofton claimed the series championship. Lofton moved to racing on four-wheels in 2003 and has never slowed down since, competing in recent years in the NASCAR Camping World Series West and the ARCA RE/MAX Series.

STEVE ARPIN AIMS TO IMPRESS IN ARCA/REMAX SEASON OPENER IN DAYTONA
Denver, NC (February 6, 2009) -- Steve Arpin will field the No. 20 Mesilla Valley Transportation Dodge in the inaugural ARCA RE/MAX Series race on Saturday in Daytona. The No. 20 team is one of four cars coming from the Eddie Sharp Racing camp in 2009.
"It's an incredible opportunity to be here and be able to add Daytona International Speedway to my list of accomplishments. This is something that I've always wanted to do," Arpin said.
Arpin, a native of Fort Frances, Ontario, will be sponsored in the series opener Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 by Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT), a large transportation operation specializing in time sensitive service between major manufacturing areas in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
In 2008, despite a setback after sustaining severe burns while changing his motor at Volusia Speedway, Arpin scored the title of USAC Silver Crown Rookie of the Year, logging six feature wins, nine second place finishes and 18 top five finishes. He also took the Minnesota Modified Nationals Champion title in the same year.
In 2009, Arpin moves to his first stock car ride and will work together with ESR crew chief, Wayne Carroll, to work his way into Daytona's winner circle. "The chemistry could not be better with Wayne and my car chief, Jonathan Davis, " commented Arpin. "We all understand each other so well that they can take my feedback and apply it to the car setup with good results every time."
Arpin's enthusiasm for racing is contagious and has earned him the support from several NASCAR veterans including NASCAR Sprint Cup Series notable, Carl Edwards. After hearing of Arpin's unfortunate situation in last February's modified event at Volusia, Edwards offered to take over the helm of his modified ride, and they have been friends -- and now fellow stock car racers -- ever since. "Carl has given me a lot of advice to help prepare me for what to expect when we take the green flag," Arpin said.
Although ARCA is his top priority, Arpin has been pulling double duty this week also participating in the UMP Alltel DIRTcar Nationals presented by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park. Steve pilots a brand new Taylor Motorsports chassis designed by himself and Jeff Taylor, and will be running Dodge motors be Kevin Stoa in 2009. |
